P7 explore the history of our school crest
Our school is called St Patrick’s Legamaddy named after the patron Saint of Ireland St Patrick. Patrick came to Ireland as a slave and taught the people about God. Patrick built his first church in Saul, just outside Downpatrick, and is said to buried in Downpatrick Cathedral.
Our Church St Patrick’s was built in 1865 by Fr. Richard Killen. A stone Celtic cross is to be found in front of the church to commemorate the missions given by the Passionate Fathers in July 1870 and July 1885. Our school crest is based on the design of this Celtic Cross.
We enjoyed finding out about the history of our school crest.
