Antimicrobial resistance and our environment
29th Mar 2022
Today the P7 children learnt all about antimicrobial resistance and worked with Dr Linda from Queens University. The children were introduced to the world of antibiotics, their benefits and the global problem of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). AMR occurs when bacteria, fungi, viruses and parasites change over time and no longer respond to medicines making infections harder to treat and increasing risk of disease spread, severe illness and death.
The children were guided through a simple colorimetric experiment to identify soil samples which may harbour AMR genes using the AMR detection kit.
